Quick answer
Urban Games has not yet published the exact map sizes for Transport Fever 3. We checked the official game page, the Steam listing and the launch announcements.[1][2] What is confirmed: randomly generated maps with distinct biomes, an in-game map editor, and heightmap import.[1][3] For reference, Transport Fever 2's largest standard size was Very Large, about 16 × 16 km, with larger experimental sizes up to 24 × 24 km.[4]
What is confirmed for Transport Fever 3
- Random maps with biomes: the official game page lists "Randomly generated maps with distinct biomes that offer unique game-play challenges".[1]
- Mixed biomes on one map: the new node-based generator blends biomes, for example deserts into canyons.[3]
- Map editor: "Map editor to design comprehensive maps in-game".[1] It can import heightmaps or sculpt terrain from scratch.[3]
- Handcrafted maps in the Deluxe Edition: Redrock Bends, Northern Gates and Emerald Shores (editions).[2]
Transport Fever 2 map sizes (for comparison only)
These are Transport Fever 2 values from its official game manual. They are not confirmed for TF3.[4]
| Size (1:1 ratio) | Approx. dimensions | Available by default in TF2 |
|---|---|---|
| Tiny | 4 × 4 km | No (experimental) |
| Small | 8 × 8 km | Yes |
| Medium | 11 × 11 km | Yes |
| Large | 14 × 14 km | Yes |
| Very Large | 16 × 16 km | Yes |
| Huge | 20 × 20 km | No (experimental) |
| Megalomaniac | 24 × 24 km | No (experimental) |
TF2 also offered 1:2 to 1:5 map ratios, and its manual says the console edition was limited to smaller sizes because of memory limits.[4] Whether TF3 keeps these names, ratios or console limits is not yet confirmed.
Will we update this?
Yes. Once the game is out, map sizes are visible in the new-game menu. We will replace the comparison table with Transport Fever 3's real values as soon as they are documented.
